On any given day off our coast one will see anything from 60ft Sport Fishermen to Johnboats on the hunt for their favorite fish. With this in mind the guys from Wilmington Spearfishing and
are proud to offer three days of fun and competition. Our officers have designed a unique tournament ideally suited to our area. Rather than a tournament where one big fish takes home the Grand Prize, we have it set up so the best all around skill set will win. If you are happy shooting just a few kinds of fish you have a good chance of taking your division, but to win the whole thing you are going to have to be a well-rounded hunter.
Tournament Registration:
The registration fee for the tournament is $50 payable via PayPal. Checks need to be made payable to Wrightsville Beach Spearfishing Tournament for non-online registration. For non-online registration please contact us for the entry form and liability release. Non-online registration still will need to be received prior 5:00 on the 9th of June. No late entries or walk ins will be allowed. Any mail in applications and will need to be sent to 121 Cherokee Trail Wilmington NC, 28409 before the deadline.
Online Registration:
Step 1: Login or Create a wilmingtonspearfishing.com user account.
Step 2: Click on the registration link under the 2010 tournament page to begin the booking process.
Step 3: Complete the registration form and click book to submit your registration. You will receive an email verifying that you have successfully submitted your registration.
In addition your Status will be updated to Booked where you registered.
Step 4: Once registration has been submitted you will be presented with a PayPal button. Click the button to complete your tournament registration payment.
Step 5: Once a tournament officer has verified payment a down-loadable parking pass in PDF format will become available. And your status will be updated to Paid.

Schedule of Events:
- Day 1 - Friday, June 11th - 5pm to 6pm Weigh-In
- Day 2 - Saturday, June 12th - 5pm to 6pm Weigh-In
- Day 3 - Sunday, June 13th - 2pm to 3pm Weigh-In
- 3pm to 5pm Awards Ceremony and Cookout
Scoring:
Divisional: Your two heaviest fish of different species within a division will compose your final score (1 point per pound). You may weigh two fish per division each day only if they will increase your divisional total (replacing prior lower scoring fish). These two fish must be differing species. You are not required to weigh fish each day. It may seem complicated but it’s very simple.
Divisons:
Pelagic-Cobia, Pompano, King and Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Mahi, and Tuna*
Bottom-Cubera Snapper, Hogfish, Black, Red, Gag, Scamp, and Yellowmouth Groupers
Inshore-Flounder, Sheepshead, Tautog, Spadefish
(Tuna includes Yellowfin, Blackfin, False Albacore, and Bonita)
Example:
| Name: | Day 1: | Day 2: | Day 3: | Score |
| Blow, Joe |
8.1LB Flounder | 8.5LB Flounder | 7.3LB Sheepshead |
15.8 |
| 3.0LB Spade |
6.5LB Sheepshead |
N/A 2nd Fish Weight |
| Name: | Day 1: | Day 2: | Day 3: | Score |
| Doe, John |
8.1LB Flounder | N/A Fish Weight |
8.9LB Sheepshead |
17.0 |
| 50.LB Spade |
If these were the only two people in the tournament Joe would win the Inshore Division and Master Hunter while John would take King of the Sea for the biggest fish.
Overall Awards:
- King of the Sea - (Biggest Single Fish) - Example: 60lb Cobia
- Master Hunter - (Most Overall Points) - Example: 126.7 points: 15.8 Inshore + 43.7 Bottomfish + 67.2 Pelagic
Note: You may compete in one or all divisions simultaneously. In order to take the overall bonus cash, bragging rights and title of King (or Queen) of the Sea or Master Hunter you had better bring your ‘A’ game and show your skills in all divisions. The strategic player will rise to the top of the podium.
Tournament Officers:
Administration: Gregory Woodby and Ryan McInnis
Operations: Dewey Preast and Scott Corbett
Administrative Fees:
The Tournament is for non-profit purposes. Costs of tournament will be deducted from entry fees prior to prize awards. Costs include, but are not limited to, t-shirts, trophies, refreshments, location expense, bands, etc...Any unclaimed prize money or money left over will be held over to next year.
Miscellaneous Information:
North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries will have agents from the research division taking ear bones for research purposes, though not mandatory, we ask you to please participate in their study.
